Approaches are one of the busiest phases of any flight. You’re managing the aircraft, monitoring progress, checking altitude and keeping the next step firmly in mind. ActivePlates brings more of that essential information together on the approach plate.
Introduced in AvPlan EFB 10.0, ActivePlates displays your aircraft’s position on the vertical profile of supported approach plates. This gives you another clear visual reference for monitoring your progress along the approach.
More than a moving position
ActivePlates adds useful visual cues to help you interpret the plate quickly:
Your position on the approach profile is indicated.
Your current MSA sector is highlighted.
The inbound course for applicable holding patterns is shown with a magenta arrow.
As you approach the missed approach point, the missed approach details are highlighted.
An integrated HUD displays
groundspeed
the required vertical speed for the approach profile
the altitude required at your current position to remain on profile
surface wind information.
The result is a more connected view of the approach, with key information presented where you’re already looking.
Designed to support situational awareness
ActivePlates is designed to make supported approach plates easier to follow while reducing the need to move between separate displays. It complements your normal approach preparation and monitoring, helping you build a clearer picture of where you are and what comes next.
As always, ActivePlates is an aid to situational awareness. Pilots remain responsible for checking the current approved plate, complying with published procedures and monitoring the aircraft using normal instruments and procedures.
Progressive rollout across Australia and New Zealand
ActivePlates support is being rolled out progressively across Australia and New Zealand. Not every plate or aerodrome will be supported immediately, but coverage will continue to expand over the coming months.
Update to AvPlan EFB 10.0 and look for ActivePlates on supported approach plates. ActivePlates requires the AvPlan EFB Premium subscription (for Australia or New Zealand). You can check your current subscription on https://live.avplan-efb.com/account and upgrade your subscription to take advantage of this and other premium features.
